Belgian Bpost wants its new 'delivery preferences' service to allow customers to choose when and where orders are delivered.

With the new service, the Belgian parcel deliverer goes along with e-commerce consumers' demand for freedom of choice and flexibility when it comes to the last mile. Several online shops are expanding their options, which the parcel delivery service in turn aims to offer more options.

Bpost has opted for the 'delivery preferences' service, which allows customers to choose not only when, but also where the parcel should be delivered. The choices include: at home, with neighbours, a safe place around the house or a pick-up point. This choice can be communicated online.

Research
Bpost is not alone in wanting to make its last mile options easier for consumers. European research by DPD earlier this month showed that Freedom of choice and flexibility in last mile is a reason for a large proportion of e-commerce shoppers to choose a particular retailer.
