Jd.com, China's largest online retailer, goes into business as a logistics service provider. With its new logistics arm JD Logistics, it provides fulfilment for external sellers.
JD Logistics decided not long ago to take care of order fulfilment itself. Now it will do the same for external parties. Companies can outsource storage, transport, delivery and return processing to JD Logistics.
The new service gives the Chinese retail giant insight into its competitors' data, with ceo Richard Liu saying technology is increasingly central to its business in the coming years. With the data resulting from JD Logistics, the company says it wants to redefine the potential of e-commerce logistics.
