Web shop Coolblue may go public. In a video message, founder and owner Pieter Zwart says the company is 'thinking very hard' about a possible IPO.

Zwart currently owns 51 per cent of Coolblue, which he founded in 1999 with two college friends. Listed investment company HAL owns 49 per cent of the shares. Even in an IPO, Zwart plans to remain the largest shareholder.

According to Coolblue's top executive, nothing is fixed yet. However, HAL's listing obliges the company to disclose that an IPO is being considered.

Since the corona crisis, Coolblue has been doing better than ever. Sales of office chairs, keyboards and other tools for working from home set records. Sales rose from €1.5 billion to €2 billion by 2020.

Last week, Coolblue announced the acquisition of energy company ServiceHouse. The online retailer now not only sells charging stations and solar panels, but will soon also supply green electricity and gas to households.
