Coolblue has incorporated solar cells into its blue packaging. Consumers can charge their phone, tablet or laptop thanks to the solar cell in the package. With this, Coolblue seems to be making work of 1 April this year too.

The package panels in the packs contain AVEG micro solar cells developed by Coolblue. The larger the package, the larger the package panel and thus the device the customer can power. A small packet can be used to charge a phone. A larger box is suitable for charging a laptop or tablet, for example.

"Our packages have a very important function, which is to get products to our customers undamaged. So maybe the question is not less blue boxes, but rather do more with blue boxes," says Pieter Zwart of Coolblue about the innovation. The chain says it is the first e-commerce company to incorporate solar cells into its packages.

1 April

Whether the solar cells are an April 1 joke has yet to be officially confirmed. The reviews on the webshop already suggest they are.

Coolblue does its best for April 1 every year. Previous years, it sought Package Huggers and Mini Warehouse Keepers.
