This year's Safe Warehouse Day will be organised online. On Wednesday 24 March, participants will attend digital workshops and sessions on healthy and safe working.

This year, the focus is on the Healthy and Safe Warehouse Code, an initiative of evofenedex and BMWT. The organisers argue that much has already changed for the better. Nevertheless, serious accidents still occur every other working day in Dutch warehouses. These include collisions or falling loads. Many companies are said to have insufficiently identified the risks on the shop floor.

Safety on the agenda

Sander Nieuwenhuizen, senior manager at evofenedex: "Improving this requires more than adjusting, for example, traffic rules or means of internal transport. Safety has to become part of the daily company culture."

The Healthy and Safe Warehouse Code should promote integration in the daily company culture. It contains practical tips and tools for both large and smaller companies, said Jan Hommes, director of BMWT. "In doing so, we mainly assume the best balance between people, process, technology and environment. But the Healthy and Safe Warehouse Code is valuable for every company. What is important is that companies start making a plan of action and put safety on the agenda."

Online event

The online event on 24 March is aimed at anyone responsible for safety within the storage of goods or working in warehouses and distribution centres. You can register here.
