Delhaize will now deliver groceries to your home in Belgium. The supermarket chain, which recently merged with Ahold, was already active with an online shop, but did not yet bring orders to the front door. Delhaize is thus entering relatively virgin territory in Belgium.

Groceries bought online could previously only be picked up at the supermarket. For 10 euros, Delhaize now delivers products at home. Consumers can choose from around 15 thousand products when ordering. An average Delhaize branch has about as many items.

In the Netherlands, supermarkets are massively responding to the trend of online grocery shopping, but in Belgium this market is still relatively small. Never before has a Belgian supermarket engaged in e-commerce on a large scale. Competitor Carrefour does offer consumers in Antwerp and Brussels the option of having products delivered to their homes by courier service Bpost. Lidl also recently launched an online shop, but does not offer food products on it. Albert Heijn is also active online in Belgium, but is not as big as its sister company Delhaize.
