Meal delivery company Deliveroo's revenue grew 611 per cent in 2016, rising to $148 million.
Problems with meal deliverers and freelance contracts or not, Deliveroo is growing like crazy. The company that delivers meals from restaurants to consumers' homes saw its turnover grow by 611 per cent to $148 million in 2016, according to figures from UK business directory Companies House.
In particular, scaling up international operations accounted for these hugely positive figures. The company operates in 140 cities in 12 countries. The positive figures make the meal delivery company one of the best-funded start-ups in Europe, despite fierce competition with the likes of Foodora and Ubereats. International venture capital firms put just under four hundred million euros into the meal delivery company.
The company also has a large market share in the Netherlands, with 1,000 couriers in the Netherlands alone driving in August 2016 and hiring 30 to 40 new employees per week. The number of couriers is now said to have doubled. In addition, the company is said to be the fastest-growing startup in the world: in 2016, the company reached magical Unicorn status after an investment round: the company is worth more than $1 billion.
