Deutsche Bahn (DB), together with its Polish subsidiary, has set up a 'rail bridge' to transport relief goods from Germany to war-stricken Ukraine.
This is a collaboration between DB Cargo, DB Schenker and DB Transa-Spedition. The first trucks left for Ukraine on 2 March, but DB says it is becoming increasingly difficult to transport goods by truck because the border crossings between Poland and Ukraine are congested. Goods trains do get through. They can pass through to functioning terminals in eastern and western Ukraine, according to DB.
Relief goods such as drinking water, food and sanitary products are collected and packed into containers at several DB Schenker German branches. Up to 52 containers fit on a train. These are taken to Ukraine via DB Cargo's European rail network.
Several collection points will be opened at DB Schenker in Germany over the next few days. People can make indivudual donations here. Large donations are especially welcome, Deutsche Bahn informs. Companies can register the freight they want to donate using the details below:
