Deutsche Post DHL no longer delivers in Germany for Amazon Fresh. The market for fresh groceries would not have met the expectations DHL had of it.
A spokesperson told news agency DPA when asked. DHL had been delivering for Amazon Fresh in Berlin, Hamburg and Munich since 2017. Trade magazine Lebensmiddel Zeitung reported this week that Amazon had stopped having the groceries delivered by its partner DHL since the beginning of August and was using its own logistics network for this purpose.
DHL ended partnership
It later became clear that not Amazon, but DHL had ended the partnership. The service would have been barely profitable, if at all, for the logistics provider, which eventually led to a rethink of the delivery business. "The market for groceries ordered online fell far short of the expectations we had of it," a spokesperson said. DHL reportedly wants to refocus on its core business: delivering letters and parcels.
FedEx
In the US, FedEx also recently stopped delivering for Amazon. FedEx reportedly wants to serve a broader e-commerce market and therefore no longer sees any benefit in cooperating with Amazon. For FedEx's sales, the break does not seem to have a major impact. Amazon accounted for just 1.3 per cent of the carrier's revenue.
