The most important period of the year for the e-commerce industry promises to be a good one again in 2017: revenues around the December holidays could grow up to 21 per cent.
Deloitte predicts. This is a US forecast and the figures are in comparison to next year's holiday season. A 21 per cent increase would mean $114 billion more being spent to stock up on presents.
The main reason is consumers' spending patterns and the confidence they express in the economy: people have more to spend again after the crisis than last year and the US economy, like the Dutch one, is picking up more than last year.
Forecast
Note on the financial consultancy's prediction is that they were wrong last year. Back then, while revenue was up in November and December, it did not reach the targeted 17 per cent. With 'only' 14.3 per cent, $93.8 billion more sales were recorded.
In favour of their statement, Deloitte is not the only one predicting a big increase for the last two months of the year. Market researcher RetailMeNot not only expects consumers to spend more money online, but also to start making purchases earlier.
