Picnic employees have agreed to the new collective agreement. Over the next two years, staff will get a six per cent pay rise and an annual two hundred euro training budget.

Picnic was taken to task by unions last year for not applying the supermarket collective agreement. However, the web supermarket found this collective labour agreement outdated and not applicable to its own operations. It decided to draw up its own collective labour agreement, which was agreed with trade union De Unie.

Vote

Picnic employees were able to vote on the new collective agreement through an independent party. Almost 90 per cent of staff agreed to the collective agreement proposal. Co-founder Michiel Muller speaks to Distrifood about a "new, modern way to reach a collective agreement". "No longer the old men of 50+ who determine for the rest, but rather the young people within Picnic. What do they find important?"

'Contemporary collective agreement'

According to Muller, it has become a contemporary collective labour agreement that suits Picnic's way of working. Besides the wage increase and training budget, an extra day of holiday has been included in the collective agreement. Flex workers get a permanent contract after two years when the employment is extended.
