Traffic app Flitsmeister is launching a delivery service: the Flitsmeister Pickup. Users of the app can deliver parcels from retailers for a fee.

Flitsmeister says it has a community of 1.7 million users. The company wants to use this network for same-day delivery. The plaform works as follows: participating retailers notify Flitsmeister Pickup that a parcel is ready for delivery. Users who have signed up and are near this location are then notified. After accepting the delivery, the parcel can be picked up. During the trip, the route and live location can be shared with the retailer.

Payment request

After delivery, the delivery driver sends a payment request to the shopkeeper. For a distance of less than 10 kilometres, the delivery driver earns 5 euros. For a distance between 10 and 20 kilometres, the delivery driver receives 7.50 euros. For distances between 20 and 30 kilometres, the amount increases to 10 euros. The retailer pays the amount after acknowledging receipt from the customer.

Further development

The new initiative should offer retailers additional options now that shops are less frequented due to the crisis and parcel services are busy. In the long term, Flitsmeister Pickup aims to become a platform where all shops and delivery companies are connected.

The platform was launched at an accelerated pace due to the current situation, but is being developed further in the meantime. For instance, in the future, payments will no longer be arranged via a payment request. "Due to the corona crisis, there has been a bigger delivery issue, which is why we have put extra throttle on the launch of Flitsmeister Pickup. Because of this early launch, we also understand that many improvements are still needed and they are definitely coming," says Jorn de Vries, Managing Meister of Flitsmeister.
