The union understands that more deliveries are being made by bike due to climate plans, but says to EditieNL that it is concerned about safety on bike paths. "We see more and more of these kinds of logistics bikes, with ever larger and heavier containers on them. But our cycle paths are not suitable for this," Wim Bot of the Cyclists' Union told EditieNL.
Adapt bike paths
A number of adjustments are needed to ensure road safety, the union believes. "Now we are still in each other's way, which is why we should make cycle lanes wider, but that is not possible everywhere. That's why we say: make the maximum speed for cars in all centres 30 km/h, then you can safely move between cars with your e-bike or cargo bike."
