Logistics service provider GXO is putting a fleet of automated mobile robots (AMRs) to work in its Dutch warehouses. The number of collaborative robots deployed globally by GXO already increased by 200 per cent by 2021.
GXO, a logistics spin-off of XPO Logistics, is implementing robots in the Netherlands and the UK in the coming months. The logistics provider is working with robots from 6 River Systems, Lowpad, iFollow and Locus. AMRs can boost productivity by up to 60 per cent and improve accuracy, according to GXO. This also benefits the end-user, the company says. The 'cut-off' time, for example, can be reduced.
"Over the past 18 months, we have accelerated our deployment of modular technologies," said Phil Shaw, GXO Vice President, Centre of Excellence. "Because these AMRs are small and mobile, they have significant advantages over heavier, fixed installations. You can easily add AMRs when volumes increase during peak seasons and then redeploy them elsewhere."
