Jumbo is building a third e-fulfilment centre (EFC) in Bleiswijk with an area of 50,000 square metres. From the EFC, Jumbo will deliver online orders directly to consumers.
The supermarket chain already has two EFCs in Den Bosch and Raalte. These centres are expected to reach their maximum capacity by the end of 2020. As the online grocery market continues to grow, expansion of the e-commerce network is necessary.
Third EFC is necessary
"The addition of EFC Bleiswijk is an important step to continue to meet the growing customer demand for home delivery of groceries. In geographical terms, this location also contributes to a balanced national spread of the Jumbo delivery network," the chain writes on its website.
A thousand jobs
Jumbo expects to create over 1,000 new jobs at the location in South Holland. Somerset Capital Partners is responsible for the development of the third EFC. During construction, the parties are aiming for the highest sustainability certification, BREAAM-NL Outstanding.
