Web shops that want to sell in the rest of Europe as well should go with a fulfilment partner in Limburg. That is what Emerce writes in response to ShoppingTomorrow's e-Fulfillment and Warehousing expert group.

Because the location of the warehouse affects the costs and performance of webshops, companies are wise to place their fulfilment as close as possible to the Belgian and German border. The webshop can then connect to major European logistics hubs, according to Emerce. This affects shipping rates. Surrounding countries may even have national shipping rates.

In addition, fulfilment in Limburg offers advantages for the cutoff time used by online shops. "From an e-fulfilment warehouse in Limburg, it turns out that it is possible to apply a cutoff time of 19.00 in the evening for Germany, for example, while from a location in Brabant, for example, it is often 15.00 in the afternoon. A similar difference applies to Belgium," says chairman Roy Lenders. Most pan-European distribution points of international parcel carriers are located about fifty to one hundred and fifty kilometres from central and northern Limburg. This has the advantage that parcels can enter international transit directly, without first having to go to a national distribution point in the Netherlands.
