Amazon employees in Germany are laying off work on Prime Day, one of the busiest times of the year. Seven distribution centres will go on strike on Monday.

The German trade union Verdi has been campaigning for years against too low wages and poor working conditions, and today the union is striking with the slogan 'No cuts to our incomes'. By this, it refers to the high discounts Amazon usually offers on bargain Prime Day.

Strikes will take place at distribution centres in Werne, Rheinberg, Leipzig, Graben, Koblenz and Bad Hersfeld. Some 13,000 employees work there. Whether the strikes will have an impact on delivery times is unclear. Amazon previously avoided delays by moving fulfilment to neighbouring countries such as the Czech Republic or Poland.
