Employers in logistics are struggling to recruit experienced ICT professionals. Positions for technicians, maintenance workers and production workers are also hard to fill in the sector. This emerges from a survey of 1,000 Dutch HR professionals conducted by HR and payroll service provider ADP Netherlands, organisational consultancy Berenschot and Performa Uitgeverij.

The HR Trends 2016-2017 report shows that HR professionals find it difficult to fill positions in ICT, sales, engineering and manufacturing. Over one-third of respondents are struggling to find suitable staff. Last year, only 23 per cent had problems with this.

In the top 10 hardest-to-fill vacancies, the logistics sector emerges three times. While other sectors mainly look for experienced professionals, logistics also has a shortage of suitable starters. In the sector, the difficulties in finding suitable staff are higher than initially expected. In 2015, 4 per cent of respondents said they would experience recruitment problems in the future. In reality, 38 per cent of HR professionals are struggling with this. "There is still a mismatch between supply and demand in the labour market," ADP writes in the report. "Across the board, demand for experienced professionals is particularly high and little to no demand for entry-level professionals. Purchasing & Logistics and Manufacturing & Operations are the exception to this: they also struggle to find suitable entry-level professionals."
