Picnic has one million deliveries to its name in Amersfoort. The online supermarket launched its delivery service in the Keistad in 2015.
Pinic now delivers in nearly 80 Dutch cities. Amersfoort, which has around 150,000 inhabitants, is the first location Picnic tapped and the first to reach the one-million-delivery milestone, saving customers over 500,000 hours of supermarket visits, according to Picnic. Delivery by electric cars reduced CO2 emissions by over 150,000 kilos.
Automated distribution centre
Recently, Picnic raised an investment amount of 250 million euros. The app-only supermarket plans to use that amount for a robotic distribution centre in Utrecht. The building has already been built and should be ready for use in two years. The site along the A2 motorway covers an area of 42,000 square metres and will accommodate more than 200,000 crates of products. The distribution centre will be equipped with 100 fully automated sorting, packing, and distribution machines specially developed by Picnic.
