Still just over 70 per cent of companies in transport and logistics are facing turnover losses since the outbreak of the corona crisis, with turnover falling by 30 per cent on average, compared to the same period last year.
That the negative effects of the corona crisis appear to be stabilising, TLN's third corona monitor shows. The results of the third survey are in line with the results of the previous surveys conducted in April and March. There are no shocking changes to report, TLN said, stressing that the 30 per cent loss of turnover is an average for all companies surveyed. There are big differences between submarkets and companies.
Forced employee departures
More than 10 per cent of respondents expect to have to say goodbye to employees before 1 June due to the corona crisis. A fortnight ago, that figure was 15 per cent and as high as 22 per cent a month ago. However, this more positive picture could be explained by the fact that downsizing has now taken place. Surveyed entrepreneurs would not expect further job losses in that case.
Among companies that do still say goodbye to staff, the extent of forced departures is decreasing. In almost two-thirds of cases, it now involves less than one in 10 employees. The proportion of companies expecting to have to shed between 20 and 30 per cent of employees has more than halved.
Emergency and relief measures
The number of companies using emergency and relief measures rose from 25 to 29 per cent. TLN notes that some of the companies would like to use the relief measures but are not eligible for them. The industry association therefore calls for adjustment of the cabinet measures.
