Picnic will deliver groceries throughout Düsseldorf. The online supermarket is currently building an additional delivery hub to facilitate its expansion in the German city.
Picnic was already active in Düsseldorf, but for now delivered in a small part of the city. Additional capacity was needed to serve more than 180,000 households, said Frederic Knaudt, Picnic boss in Germany. "In the beginning, the search for a suitable location prevented us for a long time. At the end of February, we could still deliver on schedule," Knaudt told the Rheinische Post.
Picnic has been operating in Germany since 2018 and now delivers in around 10 (small) cities there. "For us, Düsseldorf is by far the largest delivery area," says Knaudt about the expansion in the city. "Of course this is a challenge, conversely, interest here is also very high, which we can see from the many registrations."
The delivery service now has 70,000 customers in our eastern neighbours. Around 30,000 households are still on Picnic's waiting list. The online super says it wants to serve more customers. "But our possibilities are limited by staff and vehicle build-up," Knaudt said.
