Picnic will deliver Christmas trees to German consumers during the December month. Customers of the app-only supermarket can order a Christmas tree until 8 December, which will then be delivered to their homes without delivery charges.
According to trade website Lebensmittel Zeitung, Picnic has personally selected five hundred Nordmann trees in Sauerland. The trees have a height of up to 1.70 metres and cost 39.99 euros. The spruces will be delivered to customers' homes on 14 December.
30 German cities
Picnic started over a year and a half ago in Germany with its first location in Neuss, in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. The supermarket now delivers there from ten locations in 30 German cities. In an interview with Deutsche Startups, Picnic boss Frederic Knaudt revealed that the company now serves 600,000 customers in Germany, with a team of 600 employees.
The online supermarket is said to be approaching weekly sales of €1 million at our eastern neighbours, with sales of €40 million expected for the whole of 2019. The Dutch-based supermarket is not yet making a profit for the time being.
