Online supermarket Picnic is expanding to Zwolle at the end of this month, moving further north. In the Hanseatic city, almost 60,000 households can sign up for the delivery service.
The web supermarket will hit the road in Zwolle with ten electric delivery vans and thirty delivery staff. By the end of 2020, those numbers should be doubled. Groceries will be delivered from a hub in Zwolle.
The app-only supermarket sees Zwolle as a growth town. About a third of the 60,000 households live with children. This is higher than the national average of 26 per cent. "Parents of young families work hard and have little spare time. By easily ordering via the app and having groceries delivered to their door, they can save much of their precious time and spend that time with the family, for example," co-founder Michiel Muller explains.
The Hanseatic city is the third area in Overijssel where the web supermarket will be active. Earlier, residents of Deventer and Enschede and Hengelo (Twente) could have groceries delivered by Picnic.
Muller states that he wants to expand even further north. Zwolle is the first step, "We would like to offer the convenience of door-to-door delivery of groceries to as many Dutch people as possible, including residents of the northern provinces."
