The SP wants clarification on working conditions at app only supermarket Picnic. The party has asked parliamentary questions in response to an article in the AD, in which delivery drivers of Picnic complain.
Deliverymen from the Rotterdam region state in the article that working conditions leave much to be desired. The deliverymen are telling their story anonymously because the contracts of two people who took part in a work stoppage were not renewed.
According to the Picnic employees, the mirrors of delivery cars hang loose, parking sensors are faulty and the heating is faulty. The runners further speak of low pay, too tight delivery times and broken trolleys. Because Picnic constantly divides the shifts differently, the salary varies every month.
SP's Bart van Kent demands clarification from minister Wouter Koolmees and state secretary Tamara van Ark. "How are the ministers going to prevent the success of Picnic at the expense of workers working under poor working conditions with insecure contracts for wages that are too low?'"
Working conditions at fast-growing Picnic have been under fire since late last year. Trade union FNV strongly criticised the company, partly because it does not comply with the supermarket collective labour agreement. Picnic itself advocates an e-commerce collective labour agreement, claiming the supermarket one is outdated. After the summer, a court case on the issue is due.
