Stamps.com acquires e-commerce specialist MetaPack. MetaPack will continue to operate autonomously as a subsidiary of Stamps.com for the time being.

MetaPack helps e-commerce and logistics companies with a SaaS solution for parcel delivery. More than 550 million parcels are sent annually partly by MetaPack. Stamps.com, which offers online shipping software solutions, paid £175 million for the company.

Continuity and more products

"We are very proud to join the large Stamps.com group," said Patrick Wall, founder of MetaPac in a press release. "With this, we will offer our customers continuity, more products and an even stronger global position. E-commerce will continue to drive change in the retail market. MetaPack now has the best proposition to meet the global market demand. The best years are undoubtedly yet to come."

Stamps.com also wants to serve customers outside the US

With the acquisition, Stamps.com, which until now mainly focused on the United States, hopes to grow internationally. "MetaPack's position in Europe complements Stamps.com's strong position in the US," explains Ken McBride, ceo of Stamps.com. "MetaPack additionally supplies the largest companies and retailers, which is a great complement to Stamps.com's traditional focus on smaller businesses. Together, the two companies will be better able to deliver innovative solutions to an increasingly globalised e-commerce market for customers of all shapes and sizes, located all over the world."

MetaPack will continue to operate autonomously

In a press statement, both companies state that MeaPack will continue to operate autonomously for the time being. There will be no changes in the management team and there will be no platform impact. In the long term, Stamps.com does expect to invest in the platform to further develop MetaPack's customer proposition.
