Supermarket chain Spar is to significantly increase the number of stores affiliated to its online shop. By 2017, all Spar shops must use the supermarket's online shop: Spar Online. This is the wish of Spar director Sjaak Kranendonk. Meanwhile, 150 stores are connected to Spar Online and this number increases almost weekly.

Customers can either collect their ordered products from their local shop or have them delivered to their home. “Engagement with the local community is a top priority for SPAR, and delivery to homes, canteens or businesses contributes to this,” explains SPAR in a press release.

Director Kranendonk is pleased with the current online shops and is looking forward to nationwide coverage. At present, 1.5 per cent of turnover is generated by the online shops.

Three years in business
Three years ago, the supermarket chain started its first online shop. That year, customers from seven stores could order groceries online. This year, there should be national coverage. Currently, the counter stands at 150. The Attent shops that fall under Spar cannot use the web shop. According to the Spar director, that construction is not yet profitable partly because Attent uses a different price line than Spar.
