"You can help us by shopping as you normally do," Albert Heijn writes in a letter to customers. Several supermarket chains stress that their distribution centres are full and ask customers not to hoard in particular.
Certain products such as soap, hand gels and long-life products - due to the turmoil surrounding the corona virus - are going over the counter more often than usual, writes Marit van Egmond, general manager at Albert Heijn. Together with 100,000 employees, the supermarket tries to serve customers as well as possible. "We realise the important role Albert Heijn plays in food supply," Van Egmond said. "Our distribution centres are full and we stock shops several times a day. Together with our colleagues, suppliers, and transporters, we work hard to keep the shelves well stocked. Right now, we are deploying more people, both in our shops and in stocking."
Many online orders
Ah.nl is getting busy these days. Van Egmond: "We see that many customers want their groceries delivered to their homes. As a result, it is busier than usual. Just like in our shops, we are doing everything possible to serve customers." Earlier, Albert Heijn and Jumbo decided to stop delivering groceries to the kitchen. To limit personal contact, groceries will be placed at the front door for the time being.

Restrictions on some products
Other mass retailers such as Aldi and Jumbo also claim to have enough stock and call for conscious shopping. Jumbo has introduced restrictions for some products. "We want all customers to be able to come to us for all their groceries. That is why a maximum quantity per customer applies to some products," the supermarket chain said on its website. "This is a temporary measure. We appreciate it if customers give us and other customers a hand by shopping as normal."
