The number of vacancies in the logistics and transport sector has increased by thirty per cent over the past year. As a result, many positions remain open for longer periods of time.
Wanted: logistics manager with analytical skills
This is according to figures from job site Indeed.According to Indeed's data, companies in the Netherlands are especially struggling to fill their vacancies for experienced logistics managers. Of all vacancies for this position, 57 per cent remain open for more than 60 days. "The Netherlands is a major, international player in the field of trade and therefore transport and logistics. With the economy picking up, the logistics sector is booming and the demand for personnel is increasing rapidly. Demand is outstripping supply, leaving the sector facing a shortage of logistics managers, among others. Due to the accelerated digitalisation of the logistics sector, the demand for higher educated employees who can quickly analyse and apply data is increasing," says Sander Poos, Managing Director Benelux at Indeed.
The shortage of employees is not only limited to experienced logistics managers. The entire logistics sector is struggling. In second place of hardest-to-fill vacancies is that of (senior) supply chain specialist (49 per cent remain open for more than sixty days), followed by vacancies for transport planners (33 per cent), logistics analysts (31 per cent) and supply chain engineers (31 per cent).
'As an organisation, immerse yourself in what candidates want'
"The logistics sector faces a major challenge when it comes to finding staff," Poos continued. "But this also presents an opportunity for organisations in the logistics sector to stand out and be found faster by candidates. By immersing yourself as an organisation in what candidates want and how they search for a job, you can capitalise on this with job ads and more specific job titles, among other things. This helps to increase the chances of a good match between the vacancy and jobseeker."
