Consumers have a growing set of demands when it comes to online shopping and online retailers are moving with them. Ordering in the evening and receiving the parcel the next day is the rule rather than the exception. But according to research by Dinalog, consumers do not see this fast delivery time as the most important service of a webshop at all. In fact, costs are said to be the driving factor behind an online purchase, according to Dinalog's research CATeLOG.
Extending order cut-off times ‘not necessary’
If a longer delivery time is cheaper, many consumers will opt for it. Nor is the option to order late into the evening and receive your parcel the next day a must for Dutch consumers. An order cut-off time of 8.00 pm is perfectly fine. Dinalog doubts whether pushing order cut-off times back further and further will actually generate any profit for online shops.
Collection points not popular
The survey shows that online shoppers are not particularly keen on collection points, lockers or collecting items in-store. They want their parcel delivered to their home, or to a neighbour’s if they are not at home themselves. Nor do consumers consider it essential to receive a text message about the exact delivery time. They consider an email to be sufficient.
