Bol.com, Coolblue and Wehkamp.nl managed to distinguish themselves with their logistics for a long time. However, that lead is increasingly fading. That is one of the most important developments in e-fulfilment, according to ShoppingTommorow's e-Fulfilment & Warehousing expert group .

The 'big three' use their logistics as a service to customers, with late cut-off times and the possibility of different delivery options and free returns, for example. According to Roy Lenders, Lecturer in Supply Chain at Fontys University of Applied Sciences and chairman of the e-Fulfilment & Warehousing expert group, other players in the market have also noticed this. "Bol.com, Cooblue and wehkamp.nl were leading and trendsetting for a long time when it came to new logistics innovations. But now many specialised logistics providers are already offering this same service for their medium-sized and smaller e-commerce customers."

In e-fulfilment, the expert group expects the biggest development in same-day delivery, combined with evening delivery and period delivery. The growing popularity of same-day delivery would blur the lines between same-day and next-day delivery. "Meanwhile, the latest cut-off time has reached 24.00 and work is underway to offer 02.00," says Lenders. "However, research shows that consumers are fine with a cut-off time of 11pm. And parties that still have a cut-off time of 17.00 in the afternoon can now list a cut-off time of 24.00 in the evening on their website and still offer the parcels the next working day via the same-day delivery service."
