Wehkamp books profit again and celebrates with an acquisition. The online department store is acquiring kleertjes.com. Among other things, the children's fashion webshop hopes to benefit from Wehkamp's logistical clout and knowledge.
Kleertjes.com, which was founded in 2003, employs around 400 people. No jobs will be lost as a result of the acquisition, reports Wehkamp. Kleertjes.com will keep its own webshop, its office in Hilversum and its distribution centre in 's-Heerenberg will also remain operational. The online fashion retailer has been operating in the DC of over 15,000 square metres since 2019, with Kleertjes.com set to leverage Wehkamp's experience in fulfilment, e-commerce technology and assortment composition.
Wehkamp, which itself has a distribution centre in Zwolle, does not rule out further acquisitions in the future. The online retailer benefited from growth in e-commerce last year. Consumer sales rose 22 per cent to 729.5 million euros, with normalised EBITDA up 247 per cent from a year earlier to 57 million euros. It is the second year in a row that Wehkamp recorded a profit.
