Rules such as keeping distance, getting enough fresh air and staying home in case of cold symptoms are not observed in many distribution centres. Warehouse workers therefore fear that their workplace may be a breeding ground for the corona virus.

One in three logistics companies would not adequately adhere to corona measures, according to research by HR service provider Protime. According to the survey - conducted among order pickers and loaders - four in 10 warehouse workers fear that their work is a breeding ground for the virus. Half of the respondents find it difficult to adhere to basic rules in the workplace, such as keeping one-and-a-half metres away.

Protime director Lucas Polman says warehouse workers are in a spaghetti. On the one hand, they have to deal with delaying measures; on the other, the number of parcels that need to be processed has skyrocketed. To this is added the current December rush. Due to the high workload, satisfaction is said to have dropped for two in 10 employees. "The staff shortage makes it even more important to pay close attention to staff who are there. Employees need to feel safe in the workplace," Polman told the FD.
