XPO Logistics is expanding its last mile service for heavy goods. The logistics provider is bringing the service to Europe, using "the same successful business model" as in North America.
XPO plans to handle last-mile deliveries for (online) retailers in the UK, Ireland, Spain, France and the Netherlands, where the logistics provider signalled growing demand from customers. "Consumers are increasingly buying large items, such as furniture and home appliances, online, and these home deliveries often involve specialised services such as assembly, installation and testing," says Troy Cooper, chief operating officer at XPO Logistics. "For the expansion, we are using the same patented technology and successful business model that has made us a last-mile leader in North America."
XPO says it sees opportunities in a "highly fragmented" market, with a large number of small-scale regional players. "XPO has the scale and experience to offer customers across Europe a results-driven solution to keep pace with the fast-growing e-commerce market," said Luis Gomez, Managing Director of Transport at XPO Logistics Europe.
