Zalando is satisfied for the time being with the deployment of so-called neighbourhood points in Denmark. People who spend a lot of time at home, such as entrepreneurs or retirees, can offer their homes as pick-up points. The first reactions are positive, according to the online platform.

Zalando has been testing the deployment of 50 neighbourhood points in Aarhus and Copenhagen since July. Bundling the delivery of Zalando orders reduces the number of delivery addresses. This ultimately leads to fewer and more efficient trips. In Denmark, the e-tailer cooperates with Dutch company Homerr, active in Denmark since this summer. Homerr manages the points network for Zalando.

Positive feedback

The online platform says it has received positive feedback from users. "The pilot has yielded very positive results," said David Hejgaard, Regional Head Nordics at Zalando. "Ninety-five per cent of Zalando's customers say they have received an 'excellent service' when picking up or returning their package. A majority of customers say they will highly recommend the service to friends and use it again in the future. It's great to see market research confirmed by actual results."

Countryside

Zalando thinks the concept will be even more successful in the rural areas of Denmark. There, the number of shops is smaller and opening hours are less generous, making neighbourhood points an attractive alternative. In addition, more people live on the ground floor in rural areas, which increases convenience for both the neighbourhood point and the customer.
