Zalando enters France as logistics provider for Adidas. Orders from Adidas' webshop will be prepared in Zalando's warehouse and delivered to their homes on the same day by the German fashion retailer.
Zalando has been providing fulfilment for third parties through its Zalando Fulfillment Solutions(ZFS) programme for some time. However, this is the first time the etailer has delivered products not ordered on its own platform. Consumers place their orders in Adidas' webshop.
Pilot in Paris
The pilot went live in Paris early this month, with Zalando using its own logistics centre in Moissy-Cramayel. Products are delivered in a neutral box, and customers can choose same-day or next-day delivery when ordering. "The test is an important step in our platform strategy. Adidas customers benefit from faster delivery and Zalando customers benefit because the pilot enables us to expand our same day delivery area," said Jan Bartels, senior vice president of customer fulfilment at Zalando.
The test is also in line with changes in e-commerce, Zalando says. Consumers expect faster delivery and brands want to reach their customers through more than one channel. This means that stock has to be distributed more often across different locations.
Client expansion Fulfilment Solutions
The pilot in Paris will last six to 12 months. After this period, Zalando and Adidas will evaluate the results. In time, Zalando wants to make the logistics service also accessible to Zalando Fulfilment Solutions customers. There are currently more than a hundred of them.
