Where Zalando previously made a name for itself with its flexible returns policy, the German online retailer is focusingis now focusing on reducing the number of returns. A noticeably large label on the outside of clothes should prevent consumers from returning worn clothes.
Zalando is replacing small labels for a 10- to 15-centimetre label. This hangs on the outside of the garment, making wearing and then returning impossible.
label reads, "Dear customer, please feel free to try on and try on this item, but if this label is removed, it will not be accepted as a return by Zalando." For now, the label is only attached to occasion wear, such as evening gowns. With this type of clothing, the phenomenon of wardrobing is said to be common; consumers wear it for an evening and then return it.
Zalando has a high return rate of 50 per cent. This is partly thanks to a very flexible return policy; consumers can return their ordered products for free for up to 100 days. Zalando tells RTL Z that it is in the testing phase and does not yet know whether the measure has reduced the number of returns.
