To prevent financial waste and environmental pollution caused by empty lorries,
Value Engineers, based in Den Bosch, has created an app to show which lorries still have space for specific goods, reports De Telegraaf.

The app’s creators are Hans Togtema and Jos van Haaren. They
were approached by a company that wanted to track the locations of its
shipments. The result of that request was an app that links the supply and demand for
transport with the locations of hauliers. Providers of a
shipment submit a request via the internet, so that hauliers who still
have space available can accept it. In this way,
time and space are utilised more efficiently. The data can yield a match that
thereby making optimal use of planning and the type of transport.

Sustainable
It is more sustainable to fill empty spaces in
lorries. The costs associated with these empty spaces are normally passed on to the
customer, but when the empty space is filled by another client
, the costs for the first shipper are reduced.

Not enough users
It doesn’t take much to make the app work properly.
A smartphone with the app installed and a mobile printer are
usually all that’s needed. The biggest problem
the developers are currently facing is the number of users. To make the best possible use
of the app, more parties are needed who are willing to offer their freight
and hauliers willing to fill the empty space.
