JLN aims to help young people in the
logistics sector to find their dream job. During the Logistics Speed Date
2018, the organisation brings students and young professionals into
potential employers. “In a single day, you can
different companies for a range of roles. There’s
undoubtedly be something to suit you.”

On 22 June, Jong Logistiek Nederland (JLN) will be bringing together ten companies
with around a hundred students and professionals at the Jaarbeurs in Utrecht. During a ten-minute speed-dating session
of ten minutes, initial contact will be made with a view to a possible
employment opportunity. The companies include XPO
Logistics, Samsung,
the Royal Netherlands Navy, Rotra and WP Haton.

Ten
companies for interviews

JLN provides the matching even before the event starts. Students and young professionals who sign up send their CV and motivation. JLN then determines which companies or positions the participant is the best fit for. "We have logistics service provider as well as production and manufacturing industry," JLN president Stefan Kleijngeld tells LogistiekProfs. "So it is a very broad spectrum."

Kleijngeld sees clear
advantages over a traditional recruitment process.
“60 to 70 per cent of participants know which sector they
. This is a great opportunity for them to also get to know
with the lesser-known companies in that sector. You can have one
interview, or even ten. That way, you can
day.”

From a good conversation to an etiquette expert

JLN expects success stories, but even if a young person does not end up matching with an employer, he or she will not go home empty-handed. "Our aim is to profile ourselves more and more as a knowledge platform. This is also expressed during this afternoon. Yacht provides content for the day; the professional gets tips on how to turn an interview into a good conversation.

This is how we help the professional get started. We have also set up a number of parallel sessions covering all aspects of the supply chain. For example, the KennisDC will come and present a study on the logistics planners of the future."

Perhaps most delighted of all is
Kleijngeld is perhaps most excited about the arrival of
key
note speaker
Jan
Jaap Van Weering,
etiquette expert, known from the television series *Hoe heurt het*
eigenlijk and Blauw Bloed.
“How wonderful it is for a student or young professional to learn from someone like that
! As well as
the many tips on
etiquette, personal presentation, dress codes, proper
manners and his valuable
do’s and don’ts, there are also
plenty of humorous anecdotes from the grandmaster himself.”

Knowledge and
networking events

The event fits
well with JLN’s growth plans. In addition to ‘The Logistics Speed Date’
, JLN organises an annual conference, followed in the autumn by a College
Tour in the autumn, during which a logistics guru will visit higher education institutions.
By organising knowledge-sharing and networking events, JLN hopes to
give the organisation more ‘substance’ and raise its profile. “We want to
ultimately connect a comprehensive network, linking, on the one hand,
the members on the one hand, and businesses, the government and the education sector on the other. These
three events fit in well with that.”

Annual Conference: a glimpse
into the future

The JLN chairman gives a sneak peek into the theme of the Annual Conference on 13 October. This will take place at De Fabrique in Maarssen. Here, the combination between high-tech

and logistics central. "We take a journey through time. Think of a robot serving drinks or a drone flying over your head. This is how we show that within logistics, we don't have to be afraid of technology."
