A 5 per cent pay rise over two years. That is what Albert Heijn is offering its distribution workers in the new collective agreement. The FNV calls it a "meagre final offer" in relation to the rising profits of parent group Ahold Delhaize.

The new collective agreement would take effect on 15 April 2019 and is for a period of two years. The agreement covers five thousand logistics workers.

Trade union FNV believes distribution workers are not benefiting enough from Ahold Delhaize's sales and profit increase in the new collective agreement. The chain recorded sales and profit increases of 3.6 and 5 per cent respectively in 2018 in the Netherlands. A 5 per cent wage increase over two years is disproportionate to these increases, FNV said. "It is also important for us that purchasing power improves," he said.

In the final offer, Albert Heijn shows its willingness to support staff in terms of training and job security. Staff in distribution centres will receive a training budget of three thousand euros with three training days. Employees made redundant due to automation will be guided towards a new position

FNV members can vote on the supermarket's final offer until 8 May.
