Logistics service provider Chain Logistics starts with Open Hiring, a concept where new employees can start working immediately. They do not have to attend an interview or submit a CV. Anyone who is motivated can start working for Chain Logistics.
Open Hiring is a new approach in the Dutch labour market, blown over from the United States and introduced here by social developer Start Foundation. Chain Logistics is the first logistics service provider to start working with the concept.
Candidates looking for work can apply to Chain Logistics and start working for the company as soon as there is room. The family business, which now has 75 employees, has high expectations of this application procedure. After all, the industry is experiencing a severe shortage of staff. "We are hiring more often employees who are vulnerable in the labour market. Open Hiring is a social innovation that we are more than open to. The beauty of the approach is that you bring in people who are super-motivated to get to work," says Rob Jansen, director of Chain Logistics.
'Motivation is the only condition'
"Years of experience in the USA and early signs from the first pilot show that the risk an employer faces is not demonstrably higher than if you do select," says Ingeborg Zwolsman, Open Hiring programme manager at Start Foundation. The organisation stresses that there is a difference between Open Hiring and a social 'open door' policy. Open Hiring candidates get a job without having to apply. "In doing so, there must be the prospect of permanent employment. No questions are asked of the people to whom a job is offered at the time of hiring. Motivation is the only condition, the rest will come once they have been working for a while."
