The most frequently offered vacancy in the past year was that of logistics employee. Companies searched as many as 38,000 times for personnel for this position.
This is according to figures from Randstad Group Netherlands, owned by the AD. The employment agency presented a list of the 27 most promising jobs in 2020. It based this on vacancies from employers but also on figures from CBS and UWV and expectations for the future. The transport and logistics sector features three times in the list of hottest jobs; logistics employees, truck drivers and bicycle couriers looking for a job are in the clear in 2020.
Growth in e-commerce
The high demand for logistics personnel is explainable, says Marjolein ten Hoonte, director Labour Market and CSR at Randstad Group Netherlands. "The labour market is adapting to society. You see people placing more and more orders online. Transporting all those parcels requires more employees in the warehouse and more truck drivers to transport them further.''
Bicycle courier popular side job
The demand for bicycle couriers is growing, thanks in part to meal delivery services such as UberEATS and Deliveroo. "We also see that these types of positions are being filled quickly. For many people looking for flexible, part-time work on the side - students, for example - it is now a popular side job.''
'Labour market offers great opportunities'
Outliers in other sectors were positions for application administrator, specialised nurse and work planner. According to Randstad, the list highlights that there are opportunities in various fields. One in 10 workers would like to move up the ladder or do something different. Yet they mostly stay in the same job, says Hoonte. "And that is a shame, as far as we are concerned. This labour market offers great opportunities for workers. If you want something different on the job front, now is really the time.''
