The Netherlands has a lot of
warehouses and distribution centres, which in turn provides us with plenty of employment
. Thousands of people work in these centres. But wherever
people work, accidents happen.
We’ve compiled a number of facts about these common
accidents. Some of the figures are based on the US, but are comparable
to the Netherlands.
- Around 15 per cent of all fatal accidents in the
workplace are caused by falls. - Most accidents in the warehouse happen at docks, on the forklift truck and on the conveyor belt.
- There are 1,700 forklift accidents in the US every year. That
means one accident every five hours. - In the Netherlands, 126 people are injured each year in accidents involving forklift trucks. Many accidents
are caused by collisions with pedestrians. - In the US, as many as 100 deaths occur every year due to forklift accidents.
How much does an injured employee cost a company? On average, a
company costs 35,000 euros following an accident in the warehouse. These are only
the direct costs; they do not include, for example, the loss of turnover resulting from
an employee is off work.
Reason enough for employers to
to fully commit to safety in the warehouse. Read here how you can
achieve this.
