Crisp has grown out of its new distribution centre in a matter of months. As the supermarket app's sales rose 700 per cent in 12 months, its logistics site was soon too cramped. This week, it is moving to a new DC in Amsterdam.
Crisp, which was founded in 2018, focuses on local, fresh food as an online supermarket. In recent years, the company managed to raise 16.5 million euros in growth capital.
Crisp has had 12 successful months, with sales increasing 7.4 times from a year earlier. Many consumers who signed up in March, during the first corona wave, have since become regular customers. Moreover, customers' average order amount increased. They spent more, partly due to the introduction of recipes that customers can place in their basket with one click.
To accommodate this growth, Crisp is moving to a new distribution centre this week. The online super is moving into a bespoke 10,000-square-metre location in Amsterdam's Westelijk Havengebied. More than 100 new employees will start working at the supermarket app this month. Eventually, the DC should create more than a thousand jobs. The company is aiming to minimise its footprint by delivering in the Greater Amsterdam area only with electric cars.
