Nine IT parties received certificates during ICT&Logistics for the Connected Transport applications they developed for the logistics sector. Thanks to the applications, truck drivers receive real-time information in their in-truck systems, and can better anticipate current traffic situations. This increases road safety and ensures more sustainable driving behaviour. The certification demonstrates that the delivered applications meet national requirements and agreed standards, allowing them to be rolled out widely.

The connected applications enable data exchange between the truck and intelligent systems on and along the road such as matrix signs, smart traffic lights and tyre pressure gauges. Examples include notifications about a stationary vehicle, the start of a traffic jam or information from intelligent traffic lights (iVRIs) directly on their on-board computers. The applications of Connected Transport deliver a lot to a haulier: higher road safety, cost savings and emission reduction.

After a successful first test in 2022, nine IT parties started integrating Connected Transport into their existing in-truck solution from February 2023. These are AddSecure, Aventeon, Data2Track, GPS-Buddy, Logi-App, MobiCoach, Pharox, Prometheus and Trimble. The nine IT parties are supported by Vialis and Yunex Traffic for supplying the real-time traffic data. The certification represents the successful integration of Connected Transport into their software and is the culmination of an intensive year of development. It also marks the start of large-scale roll-out.

Safe and accessible Netherlands

Janneke Nijsing, Connected Transport project leader for SmartwayZ.NL: "We are making the shift from local initiatives to national realisation. The more carriers and IT parties participate, the greater the results we achieve on the roads for a safe and accessible Netherlands. The certification is therefore a great step in further scaling up Connected Transport."

Robbert Janssen, project leader for the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management, said: 'The Connected Transport services are based on open-source software and are the result of a successful public-private partnership. The on-street application in the logistics sector provides benefits for business and society by making transport more sustainable, safe and efficient. The services will also be increasingly rolled out in urban areas which will benefit the liveability of our cities."

Subsidy for transporters

Transporters operating in the south of the Netherlands and around Schiphol Airport and Royal FloraHolland who want to benefit from the advantages of Connected Transport can apply for a user fee until 14 December 2023. This amounts to 70 euros per vehicle. More information on the conditions can be found at www.connectedtransport.nl or www.amsterdamlogistics.nl.

The certificates were presented by Vincent Habers (Ministry of IenW) and Theo Stevens (SmartwayZ.NL) during the general membership meeting of DALTI, industry association for IT suppliers in logistics, which took place during ICT&Logistics.
