As a company, it can be very attractive to outsource your logistics (or parts of it). After all, the logistics service provider can 'unburden' you. But in order to be relieved, you need good cooperation and it is also important that you have the right expectations. That is why you would do well to go through a number of steps before entering into cooperation with a logistics service provider.

Motivation
Logistics Bureau created a clear infographic for this purpose. It focuses mainly on motivation and on choosing the right logistics service provider. For example, do you think you can save money by outsourcing logistics? Then you will come home from a cold shower. Outsourcing is expensive, but wise if you want to make use of smart technology, expertise and if you want the ability to scale up quickly.

Selecting a logistics service provider
Once you have made that decision and you know which parts of your logistics activities you want to outsource, it is important to be very selective in choosing a logistics service provider. Talk to several parties and ensure that they are experienced in your industry. It is important that you have detailed what the assignment is and what you expect from the service provider. According to Logistics Bureau, it pays to visit all parties and get to know the person in charge of implementation.

Planning implementation
Once you have made your choice, it is important that you plan the implementation together. Assume a fairly long period and bear in mind that you cannot plan everything. Then, when you start negotiating the contract, you need to look at the investment the collaboration requires. Are you making a large investment? Then it pays to conclude the contract for a longer term.
