Action, the Dutch budget chain, is going to expand substantially in France. South of the capital Paris, the company has started building a gigantic distribution centre with an area of 70,000 square metres. An added benefit of the expansion is that Action can help 600 French people find jobs. The centre is Action's first distribution depot across the border.
Je m'appelle Action
Action is to partner with logistics service provider ID Logistics in France. In fact, the Dutch company is outsourcing its logistics. ID Logistics will carry out the work for Action in the newly built distribution centre that will rise in the municipality of Moissy-Cramayel that is 50 kilometres below Paris on a former Peugeot-Citroën car manufacturer site. The site will be redeveloped by Dutch logistics provider Prologis. Redeveloping the land will cost around €150 million.
Partners will help Action
The first part of the distribution centre will be ready by early 2016. A year and a half later, in summer 2017, the entire centre will be ready for use, reports ID Logistics. The company will help Action expand across the border and will mainly assist Action in integrating IT. In addition, ID Logistics has knowledge for setting up a warehouse and will integrate the total supply chain so that denon-food discounter can soon offer products on the French market from the French distribution centre. Currently, Action already has 86 shops in France, but wants to boost this number quickly. There are plans to open the doors of the 110
Employment will grow
Due to the gradual opening of the distribution centre, 600 new employees will not be hired immediately. When the first section opens, 100 people will initially be employed. A total of 600 new employees should start working for Action by the end of 2017.
