E-fulfilment company Active Ants is the first to acquire a wrapping machine that prints packaging and packs it at the same time. The wrapping machine, called the 'Cartonwrap', wraps customised products and prints them directly with the logo of the one of its eighty affiliated online shops.
Active Ants hopes to deploy the Cartonwrap as early as the upcoming holiday season in December. That could come in handy, as the company expects the Cartonwrap to be able to prepare a thousand packages per hour. A substantial capacity improvement, as only 30 parcels per hour are packed by hand.
"The machine is gaining momentum around the world because it folds boxes to size, around products," co-owner Jeroen Dekker told Twinkle. This means that smaller products get a box that better fits the size. This prevents oversized boxes for small items. Also, Cartonwrap can make packaging that also fits through the letterbox, which are so-called bus pieces. Dekker: "Especially in the Netherlands, this is important because the shipping costs for bus pieces are much lower than large packages."
