Albert Heijn is installing some 9000 solar panels on its distribution centre in Pijnacker. The supermarket chain also wants to install solar panels at other distribution centres.

Albert Heijn will start roofing this week and then install the panels. By the end of February, the roof will be ready for use. Meanwhile, it is investigating whether the roofs of other distribution centres are suitable for solar panels.

Albert Heijn expects the 9,095 solar panels to power a third of the distribution centre. The supermarket chain is not only installing solar panels on its DCs, the shops have to go too. The Albert Heijn XL in Purmerend was covered with solar panels. The shop was further fitted with LED lighting on motion sensors and energy-efficient fans.
