Alibaba plans to open a logistics centre in Germany. The Chinese e-commerce giant is said to have its eye on the port of Hamburg. From there, it wants to better serve the German and Scandinavian markets.

So writes Germany's Wirtschafswoche in its digital edition. Alibaba is reportedly in talks with the Port of Hamburg to open a logistics hub. Such a hub is needed to cope with the growth of parcels to Germany.

Earlier this year, Alibaba announced its intention to strengthen its position in Europe, and during a visit by French President Macron, ceo Jack Ma revealed that it wanted to commission a logistics centre in France. To do so, it may work with a logistics provider, as Ma spoke of an "Alibaba partnership, including logistics, payment solutions and e-commerce".
