China's Alibaba wants to open its own distribution centre in Europe. The online marketplace is said to have set its sights on Bulgaria.

This writes Emerce following reports from the Bulgarian government and a Chinese news agency. It is unknown where the distribution centre will be located and how big it will be. What is clear, however, is that talks are in the final stages. Bulgaria's deputy prime minister and Alibaba Group's vice-president have already met.

Alibaba wants to ship products faster to the rest of Europe from Bulgaria. Now, European buyers sometimes have to wait several weeks for their products. The distribution centre stores the most popular items from external sellers. These external sellers pay Alibaba a fee to sell their products through the site. Alibaba is likely to outsource fulfilment to Europe for them.
